The Piarists of the Province of the United States and Puerto Rico gathered to celebrate with great joy the priestly ordination of one of our members, Father Orlando Rodríguez, Sch. P. on August 29, 2020. Father Orlando, who is a native of Puerto Rico, became the pastor of the Piarists’ Church of the Annunciation in Manhattan, New York on September 1.
The ordination took place in the Church of Our Divine Savior in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bishop Emeritus Felix Lazaro, Sch. P. of the Diocese of Ponce was the ordaining bishop. The celebration was attended by Piarists from different com- munities of our Province. There were also a good number of other priests, religious, relatives and friends.
In his homily, Bishop Lazaro invited Father Orlan- do to be a new Calasanz and to imitate Mary, “who is a model of dedication, fidelity and service.” Furthermore, he reminded him that “…like the apostles, you will no longer be called a servant, but a friend… Therefore make service the priority of your ministry so that children and young people will know you as a servant of others.”
Father Orlando celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving in his home parish, the Church of Saint Raphael the Archangel, in Quebradillas, PR on August 30. Piarist brothers, relatives and friends participated in the Mass.
We ask our friends to pray for Father Orlando as he begins his ministry as a Piarist priest.

Padre Orlando Rodríguez, Sch.P. ya es sacerdote
Los Padres Escolapios de la Provincia de Estados Uni- dos y Puerto Rico, se reunieron para celebrar con gozo la ordenación sacerdotal de uno de nuestros miembros, el Padre Orlando Rodríguez, Sch. P., el día 29 de agosto de 2020. Padre Orlando, oriun- do de Puerto Rico, es ahora el párroco de la parroquia esco- lapia de La Anunciación, en Manhattan, Nueva York, a partir del 1ro de septiembre.
La ordenación se llevó a cabo en la Iglesia del Salvador Divino, en San Juan, Puerto Rico, siendo ordenado por el Obispo Emérito, Félix Lázaro, Sch.P de la Diócesis de Ponce. Escolapios de distintas comunidades de la Pro- vincia asistieron a dicha cele- bración. También presente hubo un gran número de otros sacerdotes, religiosos, parientes y amistades.
En su homilía, el Obispo Lázaro, invitó al Padre Orlando a ser un nuevo Calasanz y a imitar a María, “quien es un modelo de la dedicación, fidelidad y servicio”. Además, le recordó que “… igual que los apóstoles, a él no se le llamará servidor, sino amigo…; por lo tanto, que haga el servicio su prioridad en el ministerio, para que los ni- ños y los jóvenes lo conozcan como un servidor de los demás”.
Padre Orlando celebró su Misa de Acción de Gracias, en su parroquia natal, la Iglesia de San Rafael el Arcángel, en Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, el día 30 de agosto. Los her-manos escolapios, parientes y amistades participaron en la Misa.
