The Piarists are a religious order of priests and brothers in the Roman Catholic Church. Every six years, representatives from throughout our Order gather for a General Chapter. They examine the current state of our Order, communities and ministries, elect a leadership team (Superior General and four Assistants General) and plan for the future.
We were supposed to hold the General Chapter during the past summer. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic caused a delay. The members of the 48th General Chapter finally began their meeting on January 20, 2022. For the first time, the location was out-side of Europe. The sixty-three delegates and other guests met at Casa Lago, which is the site of the Episcopal Conference of Mexico (CEM) in Cuautitlan Izcalli, Mexico.
Members of our Province of the United States and Puerto Rico chose three delegates: Father Fernando Negro, Sch.P., who is our Provincial Superior, Father Luis Cruz, Sch.P. and Father Emilio Sotomayor, Sch.P. Father Francisco Anaya, Sch.P., who is a member of our Community of Miami, was also a member of the Chapter, since he was the Assistant General for the Americas. In addition, Father General Pedro Aguado, Sch.P. invited two other people from our Province to at-tend. They were Deacon Jorge Ramirez, Sch.P. from our Com-munity of Manhattan and Genesis Esquilin Nieves from our Com-munity of San Juan, PR.
The theme of this year’s General Chapter is Guided by the Holy Spirit.
Father Pedro Aguado, Sch.P. was reelected as our Superior General. We offer our prayers and support to the members of our next General Congregation.

Los escolapios son una orden religiosa de sacerdotes y her-manos en la Iglesia Católica Romana. Cada seis años, representantes de toda nuestra Orden se reúnen para un Capítulo General. Ellos examinan el estado actual de nuestra Orden, las comunidades y ministerios, eligen un equipo de liderazgo (Superior General y cuatro Asistentes Generales) y planifican para el futuro.
Se suponía que hubiésemos celebrado el Capítulo General durante el verano pasado. Desafortunadamente, la pandemia de COVID causó un retraso. Los miembros del 48 Capítulo General finalmente comenzaron su reunión el día 20 de enero de 2022. Por primera vez, la ubicación de la reunión ha sido fuera de Europa. Los sesenta y tres delegados y otros invitados se reunieron en Casa Lago, que es la sede de la Conferencia Episcopal de México (CEM) en Cuautitlán, Izcalli, México.
Los miembros de nuestra Provincia de los Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico eligieron tres delegados: el Padre Fernando Negro, Sch.P., quien es nuestro Superior Provincial, el Padre Luis Cruz, Sch.P. y el Padre Emilio Sotoma-yor, Sch.P. El Padre Francisco Anaya, Sch.P., quien es miembro de nuestra Comunidad de Miami, también fue miembro del Capítulo, ya que era el Asistente General para las Américas. Además, el Padre General Pedro Aguado, Sch.P. invitó a otras dos personas de nuestra Provincia a asistir. Ellos fueron el Diácono Jorge Ramírez, Sch.P. de nuestra Comunidad de Manhattan y Genesis Esquilin Nieves, de nuestra Comunidad de San Juan, PR.
El tema del Capítulo General de este año es Guiado por el Espíritu Santo.
El Padre Pedro Aguado, Sch.P. ha sido reelegido como nuestro Superior General. Ofrecemos nuestras oraciones y apoyo a los miembros de nuestra próxima Congregación General.
